CBD + THC

CBD (cannabidiol) is the dominant chemical compound in the hemp plant, first discovered in 1940. It’s non-intoxicating, and it works as a cannabinoid, attaching itself to cannabinoid receptors in the body. This is a function of the endocannabinoid system that supports homeostasis, which is what makes CBD so valuable to a person’s daily routine.

THC (delta 9 THC) is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in both hemp in marijuana. In hemp, THC makes up only about 0.3% of the plant’s chemical composition. THC is also a cannabinoid like CBD, and so it plays a role in the endocannabinoid system’s efforts to maintain homeostasis.

CBD + THC products are products that contain a balanced serving of CBD and THC. These two cannabinoids share a synergistic relationship with one another, and complement each other very well. They consist of isolated extracts of each cannabinoid.

The CBD + THC products at the Calm Leaf are protected under federal law. In 2018, the US Farm Bill legalized all hemp-derived products containing a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC. CBD + THC products at the Calm Leaf contain a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC by dry weight, thus making them legal.

Currently, CBD + THC products come in the forms of edibles, topicals, tinctures, concentrates, vape cartridges and disposable vape pens. We encourage you to explore all of these products as each one can offer something unique to your daily routine. 

Some CBD + THC products at The Calm Leaf contain terpenes. Products that are strain-specific, such as vaping products that come in various strain options, contain terpene profiles borrowed from the hemp plant. Other products combine full or broad spectrum CBD with THC. Products that contain only CBD and THC isolates are terpene-free and labeled as such.

Consuming a CBD + THC product puts you at risk of failing a drug test. While CBD is not detected on standard urine tests, THC usage is, as drug tests identify THC-COOH, an enzyme responsible for breaking down THC levels in the body. If you are drug tested regularly, you should avoid these products.

While CBD + THC products are legal, they cause intoxication, and so it is not legal to drive while under the influence of one of these products. Even seemingly low doses can cause driving impairment, making driving dangerous to both you and others on the road.

Neither CBD nor THC are associated with any major or long-term side effects. Because of the intoxicating nature of THC, however, some people may experience short-lived and mild side effects including:

• Lowered blood pressure/reduced heart rate
• Lightheadedness
• Driving
• Cognitive impairment
• Poor coordination skills
• Dry mouth and dry eyes

It should be noted that these side effects are more likely to occur if you take higher than recommended dosage amounts.

Consuming CBD and THC together offers a unique cannabinoid experience that many describe as very balanced and soothing. The CBD is known to “take the edge off” of THC, in a way that can make the high more mellowing to the body as well as the mind. Most people find that they tolerate anywhere from 10-20 milligrams of THC, while being able to tolerate higher servings of CBD due to it not being intoxicating.

CBD + THC Syringes contain pure distillates of the two compounds. They belong in the category of concentrates, as they are concentrated forms of the cannabinoids with extremely high potency levels. They’re mostly used for dabbing. And, they’re not the best choice for beginners because of how strong their effects are.

There are no real risks associated with taking CBD + THC products if you already have CBD in your system. What will most likely happen is that the additional CBD in your body will mellow out the THC high even further.
