CBN Products

Want to explore a different kind of hemp experience? CBN, or cannabinol, is a minorly occurring cannabinoid in the hemp plant, that, like CBD, is federally legal and non-psychoactive. CBN is a cannabinoid like CBD, capable of binding to cannabinoid receptors in the body to regulate processes that play a big role in how we feel. CBN is known as the “nighttime cannabinoid,” because many people find that it helps them at bedtime, potentially aiding in bliss. In fact, it can be a serious gamechanger in your routine.

We offer a rich array of CBN-specific products in all kinds of delivery methods, including vapes, tinctures and edibles that each let you explore these effects in unique yet equally desirable ways. The CBN that we carry all comes from top-rated brands in the industry, like Hempzilla, CBD for the People and more. All of the CBN has been thoroughly lab-tested by a third party while being formulated with gentle ingredients that are easy on the body. We invite you to explore the many CBN products below to see what this unique hemp compound can do for your evening regimen.

What is CBN?

CBN, or cannabinol, is a minor cannabinoid found in the hemp plant. It is the result of delta 9 THC oxidizing, and partially converting into a new cannabinoid. Despite the relationship to delta 9, CBN is completely unique and does not behave like delta 9 THC.Fascinatingly, CBN was first discovered in 1899, acting as the first cannabinoid to ever be isolated.

What is CBN Used for?

CBN has been researched over the decades for its various properties, but its most common application is in sleep formulas. Many people describe the effects of CBN as particularly soothing and mellowing, making it a great choice for bedtime. Besides that, it may offer a level of relief from physical discomfort as well.

How is CBN Made?

To produce a CBN product, the trace amount of CBN naturally found in hemp must be isolated and extracted. Then, this CBN-rich extract can be blended with all kinds of ingredients to produce various product types. CBN products may or may not contain other derivatives of the hemp plant, including specific cannabinoid and terpenes.v

Is CBN Legal?

When the United States passed the Farm Bill in 2018, it was determined that all hemp products are legal as long as they contain no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC. This means that CBN is legal in all product types and strengths on a federal level. To date, CBN remains fully legal in all 50 states.

Is CBN Intoxicating?

CBN is derived from delta 9 THC, but CBN products on the market are not intoxicating. CBN does have trace psychoactive effects which are only achievable when the cannabinoid is taken in extremely high dosage amounts – far more than what you’d find in any product at The Calm Leaf.

What Kinds of CBN Products are There?

Just like CBD, CBN comes in all kinds of product forms. At The Calm Leaf, you’ll find CBN edibles, tinctures and vaping products that all provide the body with active servings of the cannabinoid, through different delivery methods. We encourage you to explore these different products to see which one is best for your particular needs.

Do CBN Products Cause Mental Impairment?

While many people find CBN great at bedtime, the cannabinoid does not cause mental impairment as it’s not intoxicating, and not a hypnotic. However, some CBN products at the Calm Leaf combine CBN with psychoactive cannabinoids like delta 8 THC, which will cause intoxicating effects.

When Should I Take CBN?

Because of the mellowing effect associated with cannabinol, it’s recommended that you take the cannabinoid at nighttime. Again, the cannabinoid will not cause impairment, but it may cause some level of drowsiness. This means that it’s best to take it when you have no real responsibilities to tend to.

Can I Take CBN with a Medication?

Like many cannabinoids, cannabinol may suppress levels of an enzyme known as CYP3A4. This enzyme is responsible for breaking down a number of common medications, and so it may cause some level of an interaction. We recommend speaking to your doctor if you are taking medications and have an interest in CBN.

Can CBN Cause Side Effects?

CBN is not associated with any real concerning side effects. As a nontoxic cannabinoid, it has not been shown to cause toxic effects. However, some people may be sensitive to certain temporary and mild side effects, especially when CBN is consumed in high doses, such as:

  • Dry mouth/dry eyes
  • Lightheadedness
  • Drowsiness
  • Reduced blood pressure/increased heart rate

Can I Take CBN with Other Cannabinoids?

You can absolutely take CBN with other cannabinoids, as there are no negative interactions between cannabinoids within the hemp plant. In fact, at The Calm Leaf we carry a number of CBN products which combine the cannabinoid with CBD, delta 8 THC and other hemp derivatives. These cannabinoids can work synergistically with one another to boost the effectiveness of one another.

How Much CBN Should I Take?

Each CBN product at The Calm Leaf comes with clear dosing instructions on the label. We recommend that you follow the label carefully to know you’re taking the suggested daily or nightly amount as determined by the manufacturer. Note that since CBN is nontoxic, higher doses may be well tolerated if desired.

Can I Take CBN if I’m Already Taking Melatonin?

There is no known interaction between CBN and melatonin. In fact, a lot of hemp products on the market combine CBN and melatonin together. Overall, this combination should be fine.

If I Take CBN at Bedtime, Will I Feel Groggy the Next Day?

While everyone’s experience will ultimately be unique, there’s only a low chance that you’ll feel groggy the day after taking CBN. CBN is a pretty gentle cannabinoid when it comes to its effects. And, its effects seem to fully wear off over the course of the night.

Which CBN Product Type is Best for Sleep?

If you’re looking for a product that takes effect within minutes but wears off in a couple of hours, vapes are the best option. If you want something that takes effect within about 90 minutes but has effects that last for 8 hours, we recommend an edible. For a nice middle-ground between the two, tinctures are the way to go.
