A Complete Insight into Delta 10 THC

Posted by David Nadel on Sep 09, 2021

Delta 10 THC hit the market only this year, and it has already proven itself as a uniquely valuable cannabinoid that has a lot to offer thanks to its distinctive effects. Delta 10 is a one-of-a-kind compound with equally fascinating origins. While it’s known primarily for its mild psychoactive properties, as it is a cannabinoid, it can be quite useful to the body through its relationship to the endocannabinoid system.

What is Delta 10 THC?

Delta 10 THC was a cannabinoid that emerged onto the scene shortly after the arrival of delta 8 THC, and the two cannabinoids actually share a lot in common. They’re both mildly psychoactive, and both offer distinctive properties to the body’s endocannabinoid system, as all cannabinoids do. But, delta 10 has proven to be highly useful on its own, due to the unique effects that it can provide.

Delta 10 is an isomer of delta 9, meaning that it has the same molecules except they are structured in a different way. Because delta-10 is not a naturally occurring compound, it’s produced by simply rearranging the molecules of delta-9 to create an entirely new cannabinoid that has its own unique chemical properties, and therefore yields its own distinctive effects in the body.

The History of Delta 10 THC

The history is as compelling as its unique properties, and it has only been discovered very recently – within the last couple of years, to be exact. Delta 10 THC was actually discovered by accident. It all happened when a group of farmers purchased a cannabis farm in California, shortly after a wave of wildfires had occurred. The new landowners wanted to test the cannabis crops on the property, and after taking them to the lab, they discovered a cannabinoid present in the plant sample that had never been identified before.

It was finally determined that this new cannabinoid was delta 10, which resulted from the application of flame retardant to the plant by the previous farmer. This created a chemical reaction that birthed an entirely new cannabinoid with its own unique properties. Scientists have since developed a method of producing delta 10 that is clean and does not require exposure to toxic chemicals.

What are the Properties of Delta 10 THC?

Since it’s still new to the market, unlike other cannabinoids we have access to, such as cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), and delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC), delta 10 THC has not been researched by chemists for decades. Why? Because it wasn’t even available to chemists until basically this year.

What this means is that researchers have not yet had an opportunity to really study its properties beyond its psychoactive nature. Surely, as delta 10 becomes more accessible, we will begin to see studies popping up indicating its unique value to the human system.

But, what we do know is that once again, delta 10 is a cannabinoid, which means that it capably interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system that is tasked with the role of keeping us in homeostasis. Delta 10 binds to specific cannabinoid receptors in the body to yield individual regulatory effects pertaining to individual bodily processes.

All that we have right now is anecdotal stories from users. By and large, many people have reported that delta 10 is an uplifting cannabinoid, and that it seems to offer feelings of focus, concentration, sharpness, alertness, and motivation. Also, because of its similarities to delta 8 and delta 9, we wouldn’t be surprised if researchers found that delta 10 THC can play a role in managing nausea, physical discomfort, and appetite, while also potentially offering neuroprotectant qualities like many other cannabinoids that have been researched heavily over the years.

We don’t yet know the exact cannabinoid receptors that delta 10 works with. For instance, we know that delta 8 prefers CB1 receptors in the nervous system, and therefore may offer uniquely concentrated effects pertaining to nervous system function. What we can say is that despite the fact that delta 10 is ultimately a cannabinoid, not present in the raw plant material, it does seem to behave just like naturally occurring cannabinoids in terms of how it’s utilized by the body.

What is the Psychoactive Nature of Delta 10 THC?

Delta 10 is often compared to delta 8 when it comes to its psychoactive properties, and for good reason. Delta 10 is considered the sativa to delta 8’s indica. In other words, while many say that delta 8 is more mellowing, and great for nighttime, delta 10 seems to be more uplifting and better suited for the more active hours of a person’s day. Ultimately, each person’s experience will vary, so bear that in mind.

Like delta 8, delta 10 seems to be about 70% as psychoactive as delta 9. It seems to be similar to delta 8 in that the high is not as consciousness-altering or potentially paranoia-inducing. Many people feel that they can continue their daily routines after taking delta 10. However, note that no psychoactive substance should be taken before driving or operating heavy machinery.

Delta 10 may be mild compared to delta 9, but beginners should still start slow, which applies to any new psychoactive cannabinoid. All THC cannabinoids are tolerance-dependent, meaning that a beginner may have a very intoxicating experience if they take a higher dose for the first time. Over time, the beginner can work their way up in terms of dosing until they are getting the effects that they want.

Types of Delta 10 THC Products

Delta 10 THC can be found in various forms, so explore the products that are out there in order to see for yourself what makes this compound such a standout.

  • Vapes: Easily, the most popular way to consume delta 10 THC is through vaping it. Delta 10 vapes, including both 510 vape cartridges and disposables, are pretty common on today’s hemp market.
